Males part II

Back to  Main Betta Page

Females

Sinatra

My second Betta. He is a yellow male with blue eyes. From WalMart. Was snow-white when I bought him, now he is a lovely gold, with dark flecks, black lips and a hint of blue in his tail.

As my oldest betta, Sinatra now lives in a two-gallon "retirement tank" with a girlfriend in a tank on either side. He will stay in this tank till the end of his life.

Sherman

My third betta, a male who is deep cobalt blue with a rich red on his fins. He is very hard to photograph well,he is a very active, very splashy fish. I just happened to cath him in a moment of pondering here.He was named by my husband, as I got him sort of to be "his" fish.

Snowy

Is pure pinkish-white with a beautiful iridescent pink and blue on his back and fins. He has a shimmery, gossamer appearance. The Fish Girls at PetSmart had saved him for me--I had been coming in  a lot to look at the bettas, and they recognized me on one trip and said "hey, we have a really cool white one we put aside for you if you want him." he was indeed snow-white, but turned pink as he got older.

Carmine

A deep red, almost burgundy male with half-white fins and white face--butterfly pattern, I think it is called. He was from PetCo.He was originally named Sparky and went through a complete personality change form Sparky to Just Plain Droopy.Perked up again after a while, I think he was depressed over the death of his tank neighbor,Apollo. He was later renamed Carmine since he just doesn't seem like the same fish amymore.

So-So

Tiny, full-of-personality male betta.Pure impulse purchase.

From my journal:

In the throes of my grief Tuesday(Puff the cat had died) I went to PetCo to get Bird food and Stress Coat(wish they made human Stress Coat,LOL)and took a quick look at the bettas. They had in a brand-new shipment of at least 50, in the main betta section and scattered around the fish department and around the aquariums. All the betta boys were pretty large, and all just kinda hanging out at the bottoms of their cups. Fun life.
I looked up at a long row of betta cups on top of a stand that houses several goldfish tanks and caught a glimpse of something wiggling. I looked up and there was a teeny male betta wiggling around like crazy in his cup, the only one moving. He seemed insane on trying to get my attention. He was absolutely adorable, much younger obviously, than the rest of the shipment. He was mostly green, which was a color I wanted, with charcoal and white fins and a dark head. He's a crazy patchwork of color and cute as a button. I immediately had to have him.

I got him home, and put him in one of my small bowls. He's too little to eat the Hikari pellets so I give him Betta Bites. His name is So-So.He thinks he's a big tough fishy.

Falco

From my journal:

I thought I could hold back. But a betta like Jill's Joaquin caught my eye at PetCo.

He is light light turquoise with green and red and white spotted fins. Damn he's neat.I think I
will call him Falco.I just like that name.

Godzilla

A big bruiser of a betta, Godzilla has an awesome array of colors in green and blue, with slashes of red on his lower body in the right light. He is an aggressive eater and tends to "lurk" around his tank a lot. The name fits.

Pintel

Scarlet-red male from WalMart. Named for a character in Pirates of the Carribbean, also a play on the word "pin-tail" which this betta almost has.I can't tell if the top part of his tail fin has been torn off, or if he never had it in the first place.

From my journal:

I hate having no car. But Steve came and got me, we went to WalMart to check for toys and he got me a fish.Made my day.(Like I needed ANOTHER one!)Steve can make the worst day turn out nice, but he doesn't have to buy me somethng to do it, though.

Fang

Fang is a big, very aggressive  male betta with a deep,jewel-like blue/purple body and light blue fins. He has my favorite kind of tail--short and even, and his anal fin is a wild slash of white, red and blue.

From my journal:

I bought a betta today after swearing to hold off for a while now, because this one was discounted at PetCo. Why?
Because a kid dropped him on the floor, and his health can't be guaranteed.
(seethes)
He is awesome and seems to be fine, except for a lumpiness around the head. He may have had that anyway. He is cobalt blue, with a perfect red and white stripe lower fin and a white dorsal fin. He is red, white and blue, and a survivor. And he's BIG.I didn't think I would find a bigger one than Godzilla, but this guy is pretty large.

Fang is the king of the "dirty look".

Threepio

Awesome "mustard gas" male betta, getting more and more gorgeous every day.

From my journal:

26 May 2004

Got a new betta yesterday, I had been looking for another "Mustard Gas" color. I got one, I finally got one! I was so excited, i have looked for another one since I lost Lurch. He doesn't have as much purple as Lurch did, but I think it will come out once he's on Betta Bio-Gold for few weeks. There's a little bit of it in his finnage. He is currently a cool bronze/yellow.

Threepio is named after C-3PO in Star Wars, if nobody gets the spelling.

Icarus

Red-violet/purple male betta. This little guy really caught my eye at WalMart, I had wanted a purple male, and he was dancing like So-So once did to get my attention. He is also super-hyper and it is nearly impossible to get a decent picture of him.

Queequeg

I liked Queequeg's color although the other customers in my general vicinity  at PetCo thought he was ugly and boring. But he's different, and I go for the different coloration. It's almost "wild" coloration. He is brown, with a very attractive silvery blue and orange on his fins. He is also BIG,with a chunky head and short fins.I asked if I could put him on hold at PetCo and they were very accomodating, he was safe in the office when I went back the next day.

Quee is a prima donna and pouts when he doesn't get as much food as he would like.
